WARNING: This is a huge tutorial! It may take a while to load.
So someone said to me yesterday that they were a little less than confident in backgrounds and landscapes, I decided this would be a good time to release an absolutely huge tutorial that covers the basics and methodology behind how to use pencils to create...well, anything! Though the tutorial is not limited to pencil- you can do anything mentioned here with pencil, ink, watercolour, gouache, acrylic, oils, pastel, your cats paw dipped in ink, digital imaging software, or even, a ball point pen. It's all that easy!
List of contents: o Lines. o Grass. o Brickwork. o Trees. o Clouds. o Folds. o Rocks. o Weathering Objects. o Holding the pencil on it's side. o Line Thickness. o Characteristic use. o Other media.
And that's about it! I hope you learn something from it. You are free to download it for personal use and ask me questions about if you want to.
Enjoy! And comment muchly!
(Uploaded to dA on the advice of a friend and the fact it's designed to help people, so why not help dA too?)
He posted something! And a very cool something at that! There are some great tips in there... I go through phases where I want to draw and I think this would be very helpful. Why haven't you posted any of your work?
Hahah, very funny. I'm glad it's a cool something and not a boring something, I'd feel bad it was boring. xD Also as I said to another commenter I tried to make it open to every level of artist, so that if you wanted to get into it, you could do it without worry of not being 'advanced' enough.
And I don't post any of my work here because I originally set up this name to watch someone who left SheezyArt, and then kind of grew attached to other people here...and then kinda never turn up around these parts often. So I tend to just keep them all over at Sheezy, which if you want to take a look is: [link] and is filled with my general landscapes/character art.
Thanks for the link!! You've got some really cool work over there... somehow, just by talking to you occasionally, I knew you would. I don't know why that is either, because I don't think we ever talked about your art. Just a feeling, I guess!
Thank you! I hope it will be of great use. (If I haven't already said that, if I did, I mean it twice. )
You're welcome. I guess maybe it's because I give off that sort of mature and developed air? Some people have taken me to be nearly 10 years older than I am...and well the whole idea bemuses me. Still, thank you. I do try to keep alive the last notions of a dying world and/or art form. (*Hopes that didn't sound too conceited*)
Maybe that's part of it, but that doesn't always make someone "artistic" so to speak. I had a sense that you were a talented artist even though you haven't posted anything.
Maybe you (like me) can sense people's potential or ability with a lil' foresight? I find it's easy to tell who's got talent (even if their skill is relatively low) when they talk, in general, as they just have that air to them. Thanks again though. I get a lot of comments like that, but the ones that mean it are very much appreciated.
Nice to know.
Well, I probably won't be too popular, so where's the harm? Not like the comments will avalanche down on me. xD

This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board. This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Although `DEVlANT joined our community only a year ago, he's made sure to make his mark in as many ways as possible. From extensive bug testing around the site, to heading up the now infamous #devBUG Group, Martin's always eager to get involved. His inquisitive mind and enthusiastic personality is reflected in every part of the community which he reaches out to. Always eager to bring suggestions and feedback to us in a positive way, `DEVlANT shows a maturity way beyond his years. It's with great pleasure that we award very first Deviousness of 2010 t... Glad it's helpful, however. And if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Maybe I'll upload here one day?

I think you should... I mean, why not?
